The Light of My Native Land
In this series, Cevdet Kocaman returns to the landscapes of his childhood in Thrace: wetlands, lake shores, distant hills and the ever-changing light of the seasons. The brushstrokes are at times free and spontaneous, at times rhythmic and insistent, as if following the wind moving through the reeds or the ripples across the water’s surface.
Rather than focusing on realistic detail, the artist highlights fragments of color and the emotional memory of place. Turquoises, yellows, reds and layers of green merge into one another, evoking both the fertility of Thracian soil and the warmth of childhood memories. The soft silhouettes of mountains and hills in the distance reinforce the sense of space and gently invite the viewer into the painting.
Ranging in size from 30×30 cm to 55×120 cm, these works together create the feeling of a timeless walk along a shoreline. Each canvas becomes a separate stop on this journey, capturing a different moment, a different light and a different state of mind within the same landscape.

Cevdet Kocaman bu seride, Trakya’daki çocukluk manzaralarına geri dönüyor: sazlıklar, göl kıyıları, uzakta beliren tepeler ve mevsimlerin sürekli değişen ışığı… Fırça darbeleri yer yer özgür, yer yer ritmik; sanki rüzgârın otların arasından geçişini, suyun yüzeyindeki dalgalanmayı takip ediyor.
Sanatçı, gerçekçi ayrıntılardan çok, hafızasında kalan renk parçalarını ve duyguyu öne çıkarıyor. Turkuazlar, sarılar, kızıllar ve mavilere karışan yeşiller; hem Trakya’nın bereketli topraklarını hem de çocukluk anılarının sıcaklığını taşıyor. Uzakta silüet gibi görünen dağlar ve tepeler ise mekân duygusunu güçlendirirken, izleyiciyi resmin içine doğru çağırıyor.
30×30 cm’den 55×120 cm’ye uzanan farklı boyutlardaki bu çalışmalar, birlikte görüldüklerinde bir kıyı şeridi boyunca yapılan zamansız bir yürüyüş hissi yaratıyor. Her tuval, aynı coğrafyanın başka bir anını, başka bir ışığını ve başka bir ruh halini anlatan ayrı bir durak gibi kurgulanıyor.
